2024: Implementation of a system to manage research work

In the research center for the development and testing of polymer products, SIBUR PolyLab (Moscow) began industrial operation of an innovative system for managing research work. This figure was reported on June 24, 2024.

This is only the initial stage of SIBUR's large-scale digital transformation project. In R&D the future, the company intends to transfer all its scientifically research centers to an import-independent solution.

SIBUR Digital Division is developing a system for R&D process management together with Digital Industrial Platform (Digital Industrial Platform). It is implemented as a set of interconnected applications based on the Russian platform for working with industrial data ZIIoT. The starting point is the Zyfra Quality Lab's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS R&D), based on the platform.

The pilot site for the project was PolyLab in Skolkovo (Moscow), one of the seven SIBUR centers specializing in the development and testing of polymer products: the center's experts create new branded solutions and improve existing ones based on the customer's needs and the necessary characteristics of the final product.

As of June 2024, the basic functionality of the solution has been deployed and put into operation on the basis of SIBUR PolyLab. The LIMS R&D system allows you to automate test processes and create a single space for collaboration with instant access to all data.

The need to implement a comprehensive solution arose due to a significant increase in the scale of activities.

SIBUR research centers are in constant transformation: new practices are being introduced, business processes are being improved and rebuilt, and the organizational structure is changing. The LIMS R&D system will allow us to significantly speed up data analysis processes, improve research accuracy and optimize the work of our research centers. Only due to the basic functionality, we already at the first stages of operation achieved almost twice the acceleration of maintaining applications in the system and reducing the time spent on managing equipment and loading personnel. A single system will allow us to unite all SIBUR research centers and organize a seamless process of product development and launch on the market, regardless of time zones and geography, - commented Konstantin Vernigorov, General Director of SIBUR PolyLab.

By the end of 2024, it is planned to replicate the solution to other SIBUR PolyLab centers in Voronezh, Kazan, Leningrad Region, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Tomsk and Nizhnekamsk, and then to SIBUR scientific centers engaged in the development of innovative solutions in petrochemistry. The preparatory work necessary for this has already been completed. In parallel, new applications are being developed. Completion of the project is scheduled for 2025.

High rates of growth in the volume and complexity of the work of SIBUR research centers should be timely supported by advanced digital technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence. This complex solution of LIMS R&D for the management of research activities on platform architecture is one of the steps towards solving this problem. We have already implemented the basic functionality and the necessary services for working with data. This will simplify and speed up the creation of new digital solutions to support innovative developments in petrochemicals, - commented Alisa Melnikova, Director of Digital and Information Technologies at SIBUR.

The platform framework makes it possible to develop and integrate applications into laboratory processes as quickly as possible, which allow expanding the capabilities of the system far beyond the standard functionality of LIMS R&D. In particular, our project provides for filling the system with such functionality as planning projects taking into account the availability and workload of resources and employees, maintenance of laboratory equipment, selection of recipes and synthesis of new products, as well as quality management. Detailing the requirements and designing a significant part of the functionality of the LIMS R&D system takes place together with experts from SIBUR PolyLab and the digital division of SIBUR, which makes the system even closer to the requirements of the industry, "said Alexander Kukanov, General Director of the Digital Industrial Platform, Head of the Oil and Gas Division of Zyfra Group.
