2024: Registration of Ipecon

Startup Vetstem, a resident of Skolkovo, received a registration certificate for the Russian true antiviral drug Ipecon for the treatment of infectious cat peritonitis (FIP/PKI). The first batch of the drug will go on sale in July 2024. Skolkovo reported this on July 5, 2024.

The drug contains a patented composition consisting of the main active ingredient - the nucleoside analogue Bethinavir (VS-121354) and Taurin.

The mechanism of action of the main component is aimed at inhibiting RNA synthesis of the infectious peritonitis virus, elimination of the pathogen from the cat's body and complete recovery of the animal. In addition to the main active ingredient, the drug also contains Taurine - an essential amino acid for cats, which normalizes many vital processes in the animal body, and maintains the necessary level of immunity.

Ipekon will be produced on the basis of the Russian production site DECO-PHARM.

Veterinary medicine in Russia continues to develop and improve, so the opportunity to develop and produce such an important and popular drug as Ipecon within the country is a huge achievement. DECO-PHARM, which has a high-tech production that meets all GMP requirements, which, by order of VETSTEM, will be engaged in its production, adheres to the highest pharmaceutical standards, which guarantees the quality, effectiveness and safety of the drug for patients. In connection with the registration and release of the drug on sale, every year, an increasing number of pets will have a chance to save from this previously incurable disease,
said Alexander Reshetnev, CEO of VETSTEM.

The expansion of the line of domestic veterinary drugs is extremely important, this allows solving pressing issues of the industry in the field of import substitution. We are very glad that the branches received a new Russian drug and wish the project team a successful introduction of the drug to the market,
noted Natalia Chernysheva, Partner Director of the Agrotech Hub of the Skolkovo Foundation.

One of the advantages of Ipecon is the reduced tenderness of injections for animals, since the pH value of the finished solution of Ipecon is closer to neutral, compared to comparison drugs. In addition, the required volume of the introduced solution is smaller due to the increased specific content of active substances.
