The Russian company "Aquarius" has begun designing servers on the basis of the first domestic microcontroller "Amur," built on the RISC-V architecture. This became known in July 2024 from a statement by company representatives.

According to CNews, Aquarius has already purchased a pilot batch of MIK32 Amur microcontrollers for use in new server solutions. In July 2024, the functionality of these domestic components is being tested.

The MIK32 Amur microcontroller was developed by the company's engineers "Micron" together with those NIIMA "Progress" included in the group of companies. According to the Element group, the Amur microcontroller is already supplied to 50 Russian companies, including developers and manufacturers of computer equipment, representatives of the telecommunications industry and other industries.

Experts note that the use of the Russian microcontroller in Aquarius servers will have a supporting role. Maxim Koposov, director of Promobit, explained that microcontrollers can be used in various server boards, such as connecting boards, power distribution, control and indication boards.

Svetlana Legostaeva, head of the Computing Technology Association, noted that this project "represents a significant step in the implementation of the task set by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to maximize the use of products of domestic enterprises producing microelectronic products."[1]
