2025: Versions 5.4.1-5.4.5 with the ability to automatically assign roles and differentiate access rights based on data from Active Directory
Aerodisk continues to develop its line of solutions. A series of DSS software updates have been released in versions 5.4.1-5.4.5 with a number of key improvements. In particular, the role model was integrated with the Directory Service, as well as an increased level of information security and fault tolerance. The company announced this on February 13, 2025.
Improvements to released software patches responded to customer requests for pre-design collection of DSS functionality requirements and addressed the following points.
It is possible to automatically assign roles and differentiate access rights based on data from Active Directory. This means that customers can make account and resource access management much easier.
Additional access control features have been added: options for editing and managing domain groups, including finding and optimizing work with nested groups.
Implemented access restriction by IP addresses, restriction of the number of logon attempts and session timeout, configured to send events to the syslog server, entered a password security policy, as well as logging successful and unsuccessful logon attempts via SSH.
Increase the number of supported volumes, ease of management of large environments in terms of disaster tolerance through the replication capabilities of tens and hundreds of volumes. Replication communications now require fewer IP addresses.
The movement of groups in the event of a controller failure by parallelizing operations is also accelerated.
Added configuration of mail notifications using both controllers and advanced functionality for configuring group network interfaces.
Changing the rebuild rate of DDP volumes is implemented so that the rebuild affects DSS performance as little as possible. For many customers, it is important that the system works 100% of the time with maximum performance, even in case of emergency situations.
Updates significantly improve system stability.
The main complexity of the project was the large volume of tasks and tight deadlines - all improvements were completed during the fourth quarter of 2024.
We are committed to making things easier for administrators, simplifying DSS management processes, and helping our customers meet their needs. Updates make DSS more convenient for our customers, helping them effectively cope with security and access control tasks, "said Mikhail Glushchenko, Head of Technology Development at Aerodisk. |
2024: Implementing Role Access Model Functionality
On August 8, 2024, Aerodisk announced the introduction of the functionality of the role-based access model in DSS management software.
Before this functionality was introduced into DSS management software, there was no personalized access option. Multiple administrators with different levels of access can now work on the system. Each of them will have its own account, which meets the requirements of information security and allows you to track the logging of all actions with a link to a specialist.
Role model provides deep granularity of access rights. The current release implements access policies for user groups that can be assigned read-only or read-write permissions on DSS objects. For example, you can restrict read-only permissions for users in an infrastructure monitoring group for entire DSS system, or you can create individual users to manage file systems created on an Aerodisk DSS system.
In this way, customers "tasks of viewing events, statuses, and configurations by support team members or automated monitoring systems are solved, and they will not be able to make changes or damage productive systems - accidentally or intentionally.
The updated software in version 5.2.0 supports the Aerodisk DSS of all mid-range lines, including the new Engine AQ. For systems equipped with at least 64 GB of memory per controller, a free update option from version 4.0 is available.
For ENGINE AQ Light, the role-playing model has not yet been announced, but is planned in the future. In the future, it is also planned to expand the functionality, including delineation of rights at the object level and integration with global LDAP and Active Directory directories.
We are excited to introduce this functionality to help our customers manage their storage as efficiently and securely as DSS. The role-playing access model meets modern security and customization flexibility requirements, which makes our solutions even more attractive for business, "said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, CEO of Aerodisk. |
