Yuferov Sergei Vladimirovich

Biography

Born in 1865 into a wealthy family in Odessa, Sergey Vladimirovich Yuferov studied composition with Glazunov and Nikolai Klenovsky in St. Petersburg, as well as with theorist Nikolai Hubert and music historian German Larosh in Moscow. He also studied law and has been actively involved in the preparation of Russian music copyright law since the early 1890s. Yuferov was an important figure in the musical and cultural life of Russia at the turn of the 20th century, spending most of his time in St. Petersburg and Kherson, where he became the head of the Imperial Russian Musical Society. Details of his life after 1917 remain unknown, including the exact time and place of his death.

It is assumed that Juferov lived in Switzerland since 1906 and died in 1927 at the age of 61 or 62.

Compositions

Yuferov's list of works includes three operas dated to the last decade of the 19th century, ten orchestral works, two concert pieces, three chamber works, and a significant number of songs and solo piano pieces.
