On August 9, 2024, a St. Petersburg solemn ceremony of launching a new mine defense ship Afanasy Ivannikov took place in. The event, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Leningrad, was held with the participation of the Governor St. Petersburg Alexandra Beglova and Commander-in-Chief NAVY Russia Admiral Alexander Moiseev.
"Athanasius Ivannikov" became the ninth ship in the project series. During its construction, the latest Russian technologies were used, which have no analogues in world shipbuilding. A distinctive feature of the ships of this project is a unique hull made of monolithic fiberglass, the largest in the world among such structures.
The ship is named after Hero of the Soviet Union, commander of the minesweeper Afanasy Ivannikov. This is a sign of the continuity of generations of defenders of the Motherland. Today's sailors are taking the baton from their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, - the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov emphasized the significance of the event for the shipbuilding industry of the city. |
The name of the ship was chosen in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the commander of the minesweeper Afanasy Ivannikov, which, according to the governor, symbolizes the continuity of generations of defenders of the Motherland.
St. Petersburg plays a key role in the shipbuilding industry in Russia. About 40% of the country's shipbuilding potential is concentrated in the city. Taking into account design organizations, instrument-making and machine-building enterprises producing power equipment, more than 60 thousand people are employed in the industry.
The head of the city noted that St. Petersburg enterprises are provided with orders for the long term. Currently, 60 ships and ships of various purposes are under construction at the shipyards of St. Petersburg.[1]
