In Moscow, began to carry out endoprosthesis of the knee joint with the help of an orthopedic robot

Customers: City Clinical Hospital No. 31

Contractors: Active Robotics

Project date: 2024/06

At the end of July 2024, it became known that at the GKB No. 31 named after Academician G.M. Savelyeva, they began to perform knee replacement using a high-tech orthopedic robot Cuvis Joint, developed by Active Robotics. The approach helps to reduce errors associated with incorrect installation of the implant, reduce blood loss during surgery, as well as accelerate patient recovery.

The Cuvis Joint robot is equipped with a special navigation system based on optical tracking, which allows you to mill bone with high accuracy and optimally compare the endoprosthesis. The complex forms 3D reconstructions of joint operations. At the same time, the development of the plan and the surgery itself take about an hour.

Cuvis Joint is used for total or partial prosthetics. During the operation, the robot helps the surgeon to accurately balance the flexion-extension gap, which is necessary for a high-quality prosthesis installation. In particular, in accordance with the preoperative plan, the robotic complex resects the destroyed articular surfaces with high accuracy. After that, the surgeon checks the success of the actions performed using fitting implants and performs the installation of the final endoprosthesis. Next, the wound is sutured.

Several advantages of the applied method over traditional surgery are called. This is minimal tissue trauma, which reduces blood loss and reduces pain; an individual approach based on a pre-planned 3D reconstruction of the original knee; increased safety; accelerated recovery (after 4-6 weeks after the procedure, the patient can return to his usual life). When using a robot, the ideal position of the prosthesis is achieved.[1]
