FAS issued a warning to the medical clinic for advertising about cancer treatment

In early August 2024, it became known that the Novosibirsk Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (OFAS) punished the medical and sanitary part of the Clinician-Clinic Praetor for incorrect advertising containing promises to "cure cancer." OFAS issued a warning to the clinic.

According to the press release of the department, the OFAS received a statement from an individual who pointed to the misleading nature of the advertising of the clinic, which claimed the curability of cancer.

The applicant noted that an advertising publication entitled "One of the city's leading clinics has found ways to cure cancer. Fighting a wide variety of tumors, "is able to mislead consumers by creating a false idea about the possibility of a complete cure for cancer.

Novosibirsk OFAS punished the clinic for advertising with the words "cure cancer"

Novosibirsk Department of the FAS Russia issued a warning to the Medical and Sanitary Part of Clinician-Clinic Pretor LLC for incorrect advertising about cancer treatment

In their defense, representatives of the "Clinician-Clinic Praetor" said that the expression "cure cancer" could not mislead consumers. In their opinion, the term "treatment" implies registration of the patient and his subsequent withdrawal upon achieving remission, improving the state of health and quality of life. Moreover, the clinic believes that this advertisement will not interest people directly faced with cancer, since they are in a "more expert zone."

Also, representatives of the clinic argue that an average consumer who is not directly related to cancer will probably not pay attention to advertising, since cancer is a taboo topic in Russian culture and language. At the same time, the clinic stressed that it did not promise to cure cancer using the term "cure cancer."

However, after the vote, the OFAS expert council concluded that advertising is indeed capable of misleading consumers, arguing in the headline about the possibility of a complete cure for cancer. In this regard, the OFAS of the region revealed in the actions of the medical clinic the composition of the administrative offense.[1]
