2024: Product Release

On August 28, 2024, Neuros Medical introduced the Altius electrical nerve stimulation system. It is designed to eliminate phantom pain in patients with lower limb amputations.

Altius consists of two key components - an implantable module and a portable controller, which is comparable in size to a regular smartphone. The system provides electrical stimulation of directly injured nerves. This helps prevent the transmission of pain signals to the brain, resulting in rapid and prolonged relief.

Altius Electrical Nerve Stimulation System

Implantation of the stimulating unit is carried out under general anesthesia. Patients can return to normal activities within 2-3 weeks. The duration of recovery may depend on the type of amputation, the use of prostheses, and the level of activity. Turning on Altius and controlling the operating modes are carried out using a controller that patients can wear, for example, on the belt.

The Altius electrical stimulation system is indicated as an adjuvant in the treatment of chronic irreparable phantom and residual lower limb pain after amputation in adult patients. Replenishing the energy reserve in the implanted module is carried out wirelessly through a special charging pad when the patient is in a sitting position. With standard settings and typical use, the battery is said to last 10 years. If necessary, the surgeon can replace the unit during a simple outpatient procedure. The Altius complex has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). People implanted with the system or any of its components should not undergo MRI testing.[1]
