In mid-August 2024, the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation presented the Derivation 2S38 anti-aircraft artillery complex, designed to destroy drones with guided detonation shells. This 57-mm gun is capable of sending a projectile for 9.5 km.

Derivation-Air Defense is a mobile complex with passive reconnaissance and tracking equipment for air targets. The machine is designed to destroy all types of low-flying air targets - drones, air-to-surface missiles, tactical aircraft, helicopters, etc. In addition, the 2S38 can shoot down MLRS rockets, destroy ground and surface targets. In addition to a remotely controlled combat module with a 57 mm automatic 2A90 gun, the equipment includes a 7.62 mm machine gun.

Russia, the anti-aircraft artillery complex of the 2S38 "Derivation" is presented

The complex is based on the tracked chassis of the BMP-3, and the crew consists of three people. The machine is capable of overcoming water obstacles. The speed is over 50 km/h on rough terrain and up to 70 km/h on the highway. Other characteristics of the Derivation 2S38 complex are as follows:

  • Weight - 21.5 tons;
  • The height of the lesion is 0-4500 m;
  • The rate of fire is 120 rounds per minute;
  • Ammunition - 148 rounds;
  • Ammunition: a shot with a fragmentation-tracer shell 53-OR-281U, a shot with an armor-piercing shell 53-BR-281U, a multifunctional shell with a remote fuse and a controlled artillery shell;
  • Vertical guidance angle - from − 5 to + 75 degrees;
  • Horizontal guidance angle - 360 degrees;
  • Maximum speed of hit targets - 500 m/s;
  • Optical-electronic system of detection and aiming;
  • Target detection range with size of 2.3 × 2.3 m by thermal imaging channel with probability of 80% - 10,000 m;
  • Target recognition range measuring 2.3 × 2.3 m by thermal imaging channel - 4000 m;
  • The loading time of the ammunition load is 20 minutes.[1]
