2024: Use in the RWT area

At the end of August 2024, it became known that Russia began to use new unmanned aerial vehicles, which are controlled using fiber. Such drones are not susceptible to electronic warfare (electronic warfare).

UAV is made according to the quadcopter scheme. The coil with a fiber optic thread is located in a special cylinder, while in the frontal area there is a warhead in the form of two grenades installed at an angle: such an arrangement of shells increases the chances of defeating enemy equipment.

Military expert Dmitry Kornev, founder of the Military Russia portal, spoke about the drone's work. According to him, the fiber optic thread in the coil is enough for several kilometers - it unwinds during the flight. Thus, the drone can be controlled not over a radio channel, but through a "wired" connection. As a result, electronic warfare against the novelty is useless.

It is impossible to interfere. Usually we are used to the fact that the drone at the final stage of the flight has a picture that deteriorates, the picture is bad, it is not visible, because many armored objects that attack drones already have jamming systems. Here the picture is clear, clear, no interference affects such drones. The ability to combat drones is declining sharply, says Kornev.

"Arguments and Facts" note that the drone, called "Prince Vandal of Novgorod," was created in Veliky Novgorod. The coil with fiber optic cable is unwound for a distance of up to 20 km. Moreover, it is impossible to detect the drone control point using radio reconnaissance, because there is no radio signal. The system provides stable connection and high image quality. As of the end of August 2024, the device is used in the Kursk region.[1]
