2024: Skyeng co-founder Smetnev Denis invested in Wowfit
In mid-August 2024, it became known that the co-founder of the educational platform Skyeng Denis Smetnev increased his participation in the fitness industry, acquiring a stake in the Russian online personal training service Wowfit. The deal became possible as part of the completed investment round, during which the startup raised $350 thousand from business angels and Alhena VC.
This is not the first major investment in Wowfit. Earlier, the company has already raised $300 thousand from Denis Smetnev and the Phystech Leadership Fund. The success of the second round demonstrates the stable growth of the project and continues to attract the attention of major players in the venture capital investment market.
Startup Wowfit was founded in 2019 by Evgeny Kozunov and Nikolai Chernyshov. The service provides users with the opportunity to play sports online with personal trainers. This format allows customers to train at a convenient time and in a comfortable environment, while maintaining the quality of classes at the level of traditional training. Nikolai Chernyshov, CEO of the company, said that the funds raised will be used to expand the marketing team and test new ideas that will help the company strengthen its position in the market and accelerate its development.
The online fitness market has seen impressive growth. Analysts of the online personal training service Wowfit predict an annual increase of 30%, which is confirmed by the data of the FitnessData study. In 2024, investments in the fitness industry in Russia grew by 70%, reaching ₽11 billion. This dynamic highlights the high potential and growing demand for digital fitness services.
The participation of both private investors and professional investment companies in the Wowfit round emphasizes the high degree of trust in the project. This could attract the attention of large venture capital funds and create additional opportunities for further growth and attracting investment in the future.[1]
