2024: Cheddar cheese factory launched for ₽560 million in Smolensk region

In October 2024, a new Chedder cheese factory was launched in the Gagarinsky district of the Smolensk region. This is a project of the Gagarinkonservmoloko company. Investments in the creation of a modern technological line amounted to more than ₽560 million, which allowed the company to reach a production capacity of 200 tons of cheese per month.

According to TASS with reference to the governor of the Smolensk region Vasily Anokhin, the plant has completed the creation of a technological line with modern automated equipment. The new production made it possible to create 35 jobs in the region, which contributes to improving the socio-economic situation.

The project was implemented within the framework of an agreement between the government of the Smolensk region and the Gagarinkonservodoloko company, signed in St. Petersburg in 2023. The launch of new production will have a positive impact not only on the development of the food industry in the region, but will also stimulate the growth of the agricultural sector. Investments in modern equipment and technologies allow not only to increase production volumes, but also to improve the quality of products.

For the production of Cheddar cheese, the plant buys milk from local agricultural producers. The largest suppliers of raw materials are the Shuiskoye enterprise from the Vyazemsky district and the Baltutino production in the Glinkovsky district. This creates an additional demand for the products of Smolensk farmers and contributes to the development of agriculture in the region.

The Governor of the Smolensk Region Vasily Anokhin emphasized the high quality of the cheese produced, noting its popularity both in Russia and around the world. The launch of new production will satisfy the growing demand for high-quality dairy products and strengthen the position of domestic producers in the cheese market.[1]
