The specialists of the Branch System operator "Regional dispatch management of power systems of Smolensk, Bryansk, Kaluga and Tver regions" (Smolensk RDU) developed and implemented a set of regime measures for testing and putting into operation the 110 kV substation (PS). Yandex Kaluga This was reported by the Smolensk RDU on October 16, 2024.

The commissioning of the power facility made it possible to carry out technological connection to the power grids of a large data processing center of Yandex - Yandex DC Kaluga LLC with a maximum power consumption of 49 MW. The data center in Kaluga on the territory of the Grabtsevo industrial park is part of the extensive network of Yandex data centers, which allows you to provide users with information services around the clock with high access rates.

During the construction of the supply center, an open 110 kV switchgear was installed with two transformers with a capacity of 63 MVA each, equipped with voltage control devices under load, as well as the construction of two cable lines from 220 kV Sputnik substation to 110 kV Yandex Kaluga substation.

In accordance with the technical specifications for the technological connection of energy receiving devices of Yandex DC Kaluga LLC to electric networks, an expansion of the information collection and transmission system was carried out at the 220 kV Sputnik substation, taking into account the installed devices and equipment. To protect against overload of autotransformers, emergency automatics - equipment overload limitation automatics (ESD) are also installed. The automation implemented on the microprocessor element base has an adaptive operation algorithm. It provides automatic change of actuation current parameters (setpoints) depending on actual ambient air temperature affecting load capacity of electrical equipment.

During the design, construction and preparation for commissioning of the Yandex Kaluga 110 kV substation, the System Operator's specialists took part in the review and approval of the terms of reference for design, design and detailed design documentation, technical specifications for technological connection to electric networks, as well as the development of comprehensive voltage testing programs and putting the equipment into operation. Specialists of Smolensk RDU performed calculations of electric power modes and short-circuit currents. Based on the obtained data, parameters and algorithms of operation were selected, and then tasks for setting up relay protection and emergency control devices for 110 kV cable lines and 220 kV Sputnik IR equipment were implemented. To monitor the operation of equipment and devices of the 220 kV satellite IR, the transmission of an expanded amount of telemetric information to the Smolensk RDU was implemented.
