2025: Fontel Children's Smartwatch Introduction with eSIM

MegaFon is starting selling children's smartwatches under its own Fontel brand. The gadgets are equipped with eSIM technology, which is becoming more and more popular. This is the first smartwatch for children with a virtual SIM card, presented in the federal retail network in Russia. The company announced this on January 14, 22025.

MegaFon continues to expand its line of accessories under its own brands. The line already includes smartwatches that connect via Bluetooth to smartphones without a SIM card, as well as children's watches with SIM cards.

The gadget is equipped with all the necessary functions: geolocation, audio and video calls, messages, etc. and is perfect for primary school children. The watch has a 2 megapixel front camera, the average operating time of the gadget without recharging will be up to 3 days, and thanks to protection from water with the watch, it will be possible to swim up to half an hour with immersion in water for one meter. Two colors will be available: gray and pink.

In addition to the basic functionality, the Fontel smartwatch is equipped with useful features for the small owner and his parents. Marusya's voice assistant will be able to entertain the child and help him with his studies, and parents can easily find out the location of children with an accuracy of 10 meters thanks to support for A-GPS, GPS, Wi-Fi and LBS. Up to 100 contacts can be added to the phone book on the watch and a ban on dialing from unknown numbers can be set.

Smartwatches are especially in demand among Russians over the past few years - this is perhaps the most popular wearable device today. Children's watches are also in great demand and are steadily showing growth: for example, in the second half of 2024, MegaFon and Yota purchased 34% more children's smartwatches in the combined retail network than in the first.

Modern technologies have made it possible to replace a plastic SIM card with an electronic one both in smartphones and in watches. Watch models with eSIM have been presented in our retail network for several years, and the share of such devices is growing. We will assess the demand for the new product and will increase the assortment, - said David Borzilov, Sales Director of MegaFon.
