2024

Growth in egg production by 1.2% to 46.7 billion pieces

Rosstat recorded an increase in egg production in Russia to 46.7 billion units in 2024, which is 1.2% higher than in 2023. Such data became known in mid-January 2025.

According to Interfax, the General Director of the Russian Poultry Union Galina Bobyleva confirms the stability of the situation in the industry both in terms of production indicators and at selling prices in December 2024 and the first half of January 2025.

Egg production has increased in Russia

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Maxim Uvaidov announces plans to expand production capacities in 2025. The ministry is working to provide concessional loans to 51 poultry farms to increase egg production.

In 2023, agricultural organizations set a historic egg production record of 38.4 billion, the highest since 1990. The implementation of new investment projects will make it possible to additionally obtain about 750 million eggs.

The Ministry of Agriculture is improving measures of state support for poultry farming. The provision of preferential investment loans to expand the production capacity of broiler production facilities was introduced, and the loan period was extended to 15 years for the construction and equipment of egg poultry farms.

Currently, projects are being considered for the construction of new poultry complexes that meet modern biosafety requirements. Particular attention is paid to providing manufacturers with domestically produced vaccines for poultry.

According to the monitoring of the Rosptitsesoyuz, in December 2024, the selling prices of egg producers decreased by 12.2% compared to December 2023. In January 2025, the price situation remains stable.[1]

The growth of egg imports to Russia by 1.6 times to 818.5 million pieces

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision announced in mid-January 2025 an increase in imports of chicken eggs to Russia to 818.5 million pieces in 2024, which is 1.6 times higher than the 2023 figure of 518 million pieces.

According to the ministry, the largest supplier of eggs was Belarus with a volume of 710.5 million units against 510.9 million units in 2023. In second place Azerbaijan is 48.7 million units, which increased deliveries from 1.1 million units. Closes the top three Turkey with 44.3 million units, which gained access to the Russian market in 2024.

Import of eggs to Russia for the year increased 1.6 times

In connection with the rise in prices for eggs at the end of 2023, the government decided to zero the duty on their import for the first half of 2024. Similar measures were introduced for butter - from December 23, 2024 to June 15, 2025, there is a quota for duty-free import in the amount of 25 thousand tons.

Butter imports to Russia also showed an increase of 9.8%, reaching 134.7 thousand tons compared to 122.7 thousand tons in 2023. The main supplier of these products is Belarus, which provided the supply of 106.4 thousand tons.

In 2024, the geography of butter supplies expanded due to the opening of access to the Russian market to manufacturers from Uzbekistan and India. In addition, deliveries of products from the United Arab Emirates began.

The increase in imports of food products is associated with the need to stabilize prices in the domestic market. The growth of supplies from friendly countries makes it possible to compensate for the shortage of certain categories of products and restrain price increases.

The diversification of food imports contributes to the country's food security and the development of trade relations with new partners in the context of a change in the structure of international trade.[2]

2023: Egg growers' profits grow 2.5 times

At the end of 2023, the profit of the largest egg producers in Russia amounted to 15.5 billion rubles. This is about 2.5 times more than in the previous year, when the figure was 6.1 billion rubles. Such a significant increase was facilitated by an increase in consumer prices for food eggs by 62%, as stated in a study published on April 9, 2024.

According to Forbes, referring to the financial statements of market participants, in 2023, the growth in net profit for egg producers in Russia ranged from 33% to 13 times in relation to 2022. The released data covers 10 leading enterprises. These are the Tavros group (controls four poultry farms), Sinyavinskaya Poultry Farm, Volzhanin, Roskar Poultry Farm, Okskoye, Komos Group (three poultry farms), Sverdlovskaya Poultry Farm, Yaratel Poultry Farm, Chelyabinsk Poultry Farm and RostPositivImpulse (two poultry farms). However, Yaratel Poultry Farm is legally a branch of the holding and does not disclose financial indicators.

It is noted that the most significant net profit increased at the poultry farms of the RostPositiveImpulse holding - 13 times, from 95 million rubles in 2022 to 1.24 billion rubles in 2023. At the same time, the maximum profit was shown by poultry farms included in the Tavros group - a total of 3 billion rubles. For comparison: in 2022, the figure was 326 million rubles. It is noted that the profit of these enterprises could be even higher, but in August 2023, a hotbed of bird flu was found at the Bashkirskaya poultry farm, which is why all products and chickens had to be destroyed.

The Forbes study also says that the Sverdlovskaya poultry farm showed relatively low profit growth in 2023 - approximately 33%. It belongs to the Sverdlovsk region and therefore kept prices low relative to the market average.[3]

2022: Russia imports only 750 million food eggs per year

Rosptitsesoyuz: The volume of food egg imports is small - 750 million pieces per year. At the same time, 90% of these imports fall on Belarus and another 10% on Kazakhstan.
