2025: Woman's death during hernia surgery

On January 24, 2025, it became known that a woman died in a private clinic in Podolsk during an operation to remove a hernia. Roszdravnadzor finds out the reasons for the death of the patient, and the investigation of the death case is controlled by the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

According to the Telegram channel Shot, 50-year-old Svetlana has complained of back pain since 2018. Her condition deteriorated periodically and she was sometimes unable to move properly due to severe pain and numbness in her leg. In January 2025, the pain became unbearable, and Svetlana turned to the private medical center "Pearl of Podolia" for help. After the examination, the woman was diagnosed with an intervertebral hernia, and the doctors decided on the operation. It is emphasized that there were no contraindications for the procedure.

Two hours after the surgery, the patient's condition began to deteriorate sharply. The woman was transferred to intensive care, but the doctors were powerless: a few hours later she died.

The territorial body of Roszdravnadzor in Moscow and the Moscow region is investigating the circumstances of the death of the patient. On the fact of the death of a woman, the investigating authorities of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Moscow Region opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence). Such acts are punishable by imprisonment for up to six years. It is also noted that the head of the RF IC instructed the acting Yaroslav Yakovlev, head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region, to report on the progress of the investigation and the established circumstances. The execution of the order was put under control in the central office of the department.[1]
