2025: Detention on charges of giving a bribe of 50 million rubles to the security forces

On January 29, 2025, law enforcement officers in Moscow detained the former vice-president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) and the ex-general director of the betting company Fonbet Sergei Anokhin. He is accused of giving a large bribe.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the ex-general director of Fonbet, according to preliminary information, handed over a bribe of 50 million rubles to the FSB officer. Anokhin is accused of committing a crime under Part 5 of Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe to an official on an especially large scale). Such acts are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years with a fine of up to 70 times the amount of a bribe or without it and with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to 10 years or without it.

She brought charges against Anokhin. Fonbet said the criminal case in question was not related to Anokhin's work at the betting company. It is said that he resigned from the post of general director of this organization, because "he decided to focus on the implementation of his own business ideas in the field of e-sports and mass football." Anokhin became CEO of Fonbet in 2022. From September 2020 to November 2021, he led the Khimki football club. From 2016 to 2022, Anokhin also served as vice president of the RFU.[1]
