2025: 7.8% reduction in sex shops to 1.99 thousand outlets
The number of sex shops in Russia decreased by 7.8% to 1.99 thousand outlets by the beginning of 2025. The decline was recorded in 12 out of 16 million-plus cities. This became known in early February 2025 from the data of analysts of the Yandex Maps service.
According to Kommersant, the most noticeable decline is observed in large cities. In Moscow, the number of stores decreased by 8.9% to 298 points, in St. Petersburg - by 14.4% to 107, in Krasnodar - by 15.7% to 59 stores.
The growth in the number of specialized stores was recorded only in two cities: in Yekaterinburg, their number increased by 2.6% to 39 points, in Novosibirsk - by 5.5% to 58. In Krasnoyarsk and Rostov-on-Don, the indicators remained unchanged - 38 and 30 stores, respectively.
The owner of the Moscow stores "Condom" and the founder of the sex shop "Spilly-Willy and Jade Rod" Yesenia Shamonina notes an increase in the number of ads for the sale of goods in professional communities.
The CEO of the consulting company DNA Realty Anton Belykh predicts the preservation of only flagship stores in central areas, while the audience of small points on the outskirts will switch to marketplaces.
Sales of intimate goods on the marketplace rose 20% in 2024, according to Wildberries. In the "Golden Apple" network, the sale of such products increased by 35% in physical terms.
The founder of the Pinkrabbit Family holding Maximilian Lapin reports an increase in purchase prices due to changes in the exchange rate. In the Pink Rabbit network, the cost of products has increased by about 10% over the past two to three years.
Elena Zakharova, General Director of Purple, points to a rise in the price of raw materials by 10-20% in 2024. Despite the general growth of the company's turnover by 26%, the end of the year was characterized by a decrease in sales.[1]
