2025: Optimizing Oncology Data Collection
Stavropol Territory It is implemented, integration cancer register collecting statistics on, from oncology data structured electronic medical documents (SAMD) submitted to a special subsystem for oncology. This integration made it possible to combine the information of both platforms, speed up centralized collection information and enrich each case of cancer with data. health care St. Petersburg IT companies "" and "" were engaged in the integration of their solutions in the field, as Novel St. PetersburgTECHLAB the latter announced on February 11, 2025.
Over the past five years, the effectiveness of treatment and detection of oncological diseases in the Stavropol Territory has increased significantly. Thus, the early detection of diseases increased from 56% to 60%, mortality decreased, and five-year survival increased by more than 15%.
However, in general, the oncological incidence is growing: according to forecasts of the World Health Organization, the number of new cases of cancer by 2050 will increase by 77% and reach 35 million. With such an alarming trend, epidemiological studies become especially important, which help in planning and monitoring the fight against cancer and require the collection of statistics and subsequent data analytics for this.
Until recently, the concept of a population cancer register was the only opportunity to obtain reliable information on morbidity and mortality from malignant neoplasms (MNR), as well as on the state of specialized oncological care in Russia. The register itself is a system for collecting, storing and analyzing data on PHO in a population in a certain territory. For example, the register collects and stores data on a patient with oncology, his condition, diagnosis and treatment in general, as well as detailed information on the state of the tumor process and surgical, radiation, chemotherapy and hormone immunotherapy treatment.
Until recently, the accumulation of data from the population cancer register was carried out by manual data entry. This took a lot of time for the specialists of the organizational department. In addition, there was a risk of duplication of data and errors that could not be avoided when entering information manually.
At the same time, in the healthcare sector, as of February 2025, the transfer of information in electronic format is widely used. Thus, medical data on various nosologies, including oncological diseases, are transmitted in the format of SAMD (structured electronic medical documents), which significantly accelerates the timely collection of information and increases their quality.
Various types of SAMDs provide information on the localization of NDO and the stage of the disease, on the method of confirming the diagnosis and the types of special treatment prescribed to the drugs, as well as clinical observation. However, the data of the SAMD do not fully correspond to the data of the cancer register both in volume and in specific content, which is why solutions are not interchangeable, but must complement each other.
Both the cancer registry and SAMD have one goal - aggregation and transmission of data on cases of cancer, but they use various tools. The cancer register allows you to take into account the variability and depth of the description of a medical case, characteristic of filling out documents by a doctor manually, and the subsystems that work with the SAMD allow you to avoid ambiguity and ensure the speed of filling with data.
Combining the information presented in the population cancer register and transmitted in the SAMD format has been an important task over the past few years: it was necessary to avoid duplication and enrich each of the formats with the advantages of the other.
This is how the integration of solutions from Novel SPb (a developer of a cancer register in 18 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and a population cancer register of the North-Western Federal District on the basis of the N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology) and the TechLAB IT company, whose regional centralized subsystems for oncology work with documents in the format of SAMD, was implemented.
We implemented integration with the cancer register from Novel SPb in the Stavropol Territory. As a result, now the population cancer register receives information from the SAMD, which accelerates and simplifies their processing in the region, and in our subsystems - data entered by doctors personally, which significantly enriches the information for each medical case, - explained the director of TechLAB Alexander Shapovalov. |
He stressed that the implemented integration helps to significantly reduce the time for the appearance of information in the register and reduces the amount of manual work when filling out information. At the same time, as Alexander Shapovalov clarifies, the ability to edit data in the register remains: this is important for correct processing of information and timely making changes if necessary.
To improve the quality of information included in the cancer register, we additionally validate the information from the SAMD - a special service is implemented for this. This improves the accuracy and reliability of the data in the cancer register. Thanks to integration, this verified information, including retrospective information (which existed even before the advent of SAMD in the country), falls into our subsystems, from where it becomes available to healthcare organizers to collect statistics and make management decisions, the expert adds. |
Our company has been improving oncological statistics for many years under the guidance of specialists from the N.N. Petrov, and the population cancer register remains one of its most important tools, "said Tatyana Tsvetkova, General Director of Novel St. Petersburg. - The implemented integration of the cancer register with oncology subsystems from TechLAB is aimed at helping the organizational departments of oncological dispensaries, outpatient oncological care centers, oncological offices at medical organizations. As a result, data collection and processing becomes easier, faster and better. Now information about each case of oncological morbidity is received in the population cancer register not after a few months, but almost instantly. |
