Project Objective
IT infrastructure of such companies is rather difficult. At the same time, the quality of the IT services provided by infrastructure, and, therefore, finally, and service quality of the company, directly depends on proper functioning separate an IT infrastructure component. Thus, before the company there was a problem of a possibility of operating control of a number of functional elements of the existing IT environment. Understanding of importance of this task led company management to the decision on need of use of a monitoring system of working capacity and performance an IT infrastructure component.
The program system allowing was required for VTB Capital company:
- To automatically collect data on working capacity an IT infrastructure component including from the devices which are not allowing installation of agents of monitoring
- Process the acquired information and to quickly detect the malfunctions arising in operation of devices
- Store information on performance measures and working capacity, to create different reports
For evident demonstration of advantages of automation of problems of monitoring of IT infrastructure the decision on implementation of a pilot project was made.
Solution
As the solution providing accomplishment of assigned tasks the combination of program systems of HP of Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope was selected. HP SiteScope is used for direct data collection about an IT infrastructure component. Advantage of a system is that it supports more than 65 different types of the metrics characterizing critical indicators of "health" and performance. HP SiteScope can be configured on automatic periodical collection of data in the bezagentsky mode. Further information is transferred to the uniform storage provided by a complex of HP of Business Availability Center. It is important to notice that HP Business Availability Center stores information on IT infrastructure in the federal database of the configuration elements (CE) that means existence of a single integration platform and provides integrity and data consistency about KE and the connected results of monitoring. In addition, HP Business Availability Center provides the single console and the interface for interactive visual representation of data from all modules involved in the solution. The same console is used for generation of the historical reporting and management of a complex. As the company implementing a pilot project, VTB Capital selected S&T International company which is a platinum partner of HP and has unique experience on accomplishment of similar projects. Specialists S&T helped the Customer to prove correctness of the choice of the solution and optimum to group it on the basis of the wishes provided by the Customer.
Result
Within a pilot project as objects of monitoring a number of the used network devices – firewalls, by switches, routers – only about 35 devices was selected. Pilot implementation of program systems of HP of Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope allowed the staff of the division controlling IT infrastructure quickly and to online obtain information on working capacity important a component of network infrastructure of the company. Even pilot implementation of the solution allows users to browse the historical reporting, using possibilities of remote access. The pilot project visually showed potentialities of the systems of HP of Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope. Important result of carrying out a pilot project is implementation in IT infrastructure of the Customer basic a component of the complete solution on the IT organization and business monitoring. Existence of similar basis offers the Customer wide prospects of expansion of borders of quickly controlled segment of infrastructure and also implementation of new types of monitoring, such as, for example, monitoring IT and business processes.
