In 1998 the Ferrari company implemented an ERP system of Baan IV which allowed to manage a production process of sports and racing cars and spare parts.

It became the main part of information infrastructure of Ferrari and many years was updated and integrated into other systems in process of change of requirements of business of Ferrari.

In July, 2010, after several months of the analysis and assessment of different solutions, the Ferrari company decided to transfer the information system based on Baan IV to Infor ERP LN of the latest version. Completion of process of migration is planned for summer of 2011.

The Infor ERP LN system is suitable for the organizational Ferrari model and provides functionality for the satisfaction of different requirements of business. ERP LN optimizes processes and increases efficiency of a supply chain on all production stages of Ferrari.

The set of functions which will be useful to the companies in sectors of project and discrete production is provided in the Infor ERP LN system. This solution provides support of all fields of business, from sales and deliveries before production and projects implementation. ERP LN provides a complete picture of business, helping to automate processes and to manage them and also simplifies access to strategic information which is necessary for the solution of difficult tasks.

In February, 2011 Infor announced expansion of the relations with Ferrari company which decided to transfer the information systems based on Baan IV to the Infor ERP LN platform of the latest version.

Tasks

  • Reorganization of a system of supply and production for start of new generation of V6 and V8 turbo engines for the Maserati company entering into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles concern.

  • Consolidation of multicomponent IT systems for simplification of management of internal processes and increases in efficiency.

The innovation strategy

  • Implementation of Infor LN in Gestione Industriale (the division of the company specializing in production of sports cars and engines for them) by step-by-step abolition and replacement of 59 different systems managing finance, sales, aftersales service and technical support.
  • Implementation of Infor LN in Gestione Sportiva (Ferrari team on Formula 1 races) for systems management of supply and production processes.
  • Use of Infor ION for creation of simple and dynamic structure for work more than with 200 different interfaces.
  • Cooperation with development team of Infor for acceleration of planning process of resources (MRP).

Results

  • Transfer on outsourcing of the logistic company the material handling which allowed to cut down considerably expenses on in-band management by materials and to exclude interruptions in supply of production lines.
  • Reduction of planning process of resources (MRP) for 4 hours thanks to cooperation with development team of Infor

Effect in digits.

  • 7,255 cars were made last year through Infor LN.

  • On 110,000 the number of messages, geneneriruyemy more than 200 different interfaces and processed by the Infor ION system within works on the V6 project increased (from 50 thousand to 160 thousand during a peak load period).


Before the company rose to a task to improve and consolidate the IT systems for increase in efficiency and simplification of management of internal processes. Such large-scale project demanded the corresponding support from the software therefore the Ferrari company stopped the choice on Infor LN, Infor ION, Infor Warehouse Mobility, Infor Sales & Operations Planning.

Consolidation of all systems

The implementing solutions Infor assumes four stages coordinated on time for all divisions of the company worldwide. During integration the Infor LN system will undertake management of 59 different IT systems which are responsible for finance, operations on sale and aftersales service.

Infor ION simplifies integration process

Through Infor ION the uniform structure allowing to exercise control of more than 200 interfaces was created. Originally the solution Infor ION was tested by Ferrari for coordination of work with logistic company (3PL), and then distributed also to other fields of activity of the company. The number of the messages sent and received by the Infor ION system within works on the V6 project increased by 110,000 pieces and is from 50 thousand to 160 thousand during a peak load period.

Goal

Implementation of Infor LN gave the chance of Ferrari to give material handling on outsourcing of the logistic company. It allowed not only to nullify costs for in-band management by materials, but also to reduce the capital investments which were required on the necessary equipment earlier and also to completely exclude risk of shortage of raw materials and spare parts.

New tools allow to exercise more exact planning and additional control over all production phases. The solution Infor Sales & Operations Planning connects forecasting of sales with all processes of supply and production.

Cooperation of Ferrari with development team of Infor allowed to reduce planning process of resources (MRP) by 4 hours, and now it makes less than 2 hours.

Thanks to consolidation of management internal to processes clients of Ferrari had an opportunity to change a complete set and characteristics of the car necessary for them at the latest moment before its start for the production pipeline.

Prospects

Today the Ferrari company completes the third stage of integration of solutions Infor assuming creation of uniform tools of reporting system for 200 sales points of the company in 62 countries of the world. In plans also expansion of scope of application Infor LN and creation of a single commercial system in which will be head office, regional representative offices and dealers of the company.

The company management also does not exclude a possibility of transfer of the solution Infor in "cloud".
