2022: Ferrari attacked by hackers
On October 3, 2022, it became known about a hacker attack on Ferrari. As a result of the cyber attack, internal documents, technical documentation, repair manuals and numerous other documents were stolen from the automaker.
A hacker group called RansomEXX claimed responsibility for the attack. The alleged cyber attack was first reported by the Italian website Red Hot Cyber. The group leaked 7GB of the company's stolen data to its Tor website. Ferrari, in a statement, said it had no evidence of hacking its systems or infecting ransomware and said there were no interruptions in its activities and operations. Whether the data of the Formula 1 team of the same name was also stolen is unknown.
Ferrari is aware that some media outlets reported the possible loss of Ferrari information and the presence of some documents on the network. Ferrari has no evidence of hacking its systems or using ransomware and says there have been no disruptions to its business and operations. The company is working to identify the source of this event and will take all necessary action, Ferrari said in a press release. |
If this leak is confirmed, then this will be the second case of the theft of Ferrari documents by hackers in less than a year. In December 2021, the Italian production company Speroni was attacked by hackers from Everest.
The attackers claimed to have stolen 900GB of data from Speroni containing confidential information about the company's partners, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Fiat Group and other Italian automakers.
Earlier in 2022, attackers prevented Ferrari from entering the NFT market. Hackers seized the company's subdomain and used it for NFT scams almost immediately after Ferrari announced it would be issuing tokens based on Ferrari cars.
Notably, RansomEXX published the leak less than a week after the Romanian company in cyber security Bitdefender became the official Formula One partner of Ferrari's racing team.[1][2]
