Federal State Institution "Federal Institute of Industrial Property of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks" (hereinafter - the Institute) was created as a result of the reorganization of the Federal State Institution Federal Institute of Industrial Property of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks and the Federal State Institution "Chamber of Patent Disputes of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks" in the form of joining the second institution to the first in accordance with the order of the Government of the Russian Federation of December 01, 2008 No. 1791-r.

The Institute is the successor of the Federal State Institution "Federal Institute of Industrial Property of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks," previously called the State Institution "Federal Institute of Industrial Property" (non-profit organization), created by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 19, 1997 No. 1203 on the basis of the All-Russian Research Institute of State Patent Expertise, the Department of Industrial Property Rights and the Production Enterprise "Patent" by merging and joining it as structural divisions of the All-Russian Patent and Technical Library and the Russian Agency for the Legal Protection of Programs for Electronic Computers, Databases and Topologies of Integrated Circuits, and the Federal State Institution "Chamber of Patent Disputes of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks", formerly called the State Institution "Chamber for Patent Disputes of the Russian Patent and Trademark Agency"created as a result of the renaming of the State Institution "Appeals Chamber of the Russian Patent and Trademark Agency" on the basis of the order of the Russian Patent and Trademark Agency dated 13.02.2003 No. 19.

2017: Regional branch of Rospatent in Novosibirsk

The branch, which opened in Novosibirsk on March 3, is the only branch of the FIPS in the country. In other regions, there are Centers for Technology and Innovation, whose main activities are focused on conducting educational events. The office in Novosibirsk, in turn, will be endowed with all the functions of the FIPS, including the performance of paid services, which, in particular, will facilitate the work of regional patent attorneys.

The department consists of two departments - mechanics and the department of electronics and electrical engineering. At the first stage of its work, the branch will conduct an examination of useful models. The Novosibirsk branch of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property is located on the territory of Akademgorodok, next door to Akadempark. It will employ 20 experts. At the same time, the leadership of Rospatent already notes the possibility of increasing the number of employees.
