2025: Robot Inventory Implementation
Yandex Robotics has introduced an inventory robot at the STA Cargo warehouse, one of the logistics companies that stores, processes and delivers goods for other businesses. Thanks to this, the accuracy of accounting in the warehouse increased to 96%. STA Cargo announced this on April 16, 2025.
Previously, the inventory was carried out manually: data on goods and their location in the warehouse were checked selectively, which did not give the necessary accuracy. Full accounting was only possible when the warehouse was stopped. It was especially difficult to take into account large loads that occupied several shelves, but in the system were listed as standing on one. Because of this, it was impossible to understand exactly where there are free places.
To solve these problems, Yandex Robotics launched a robot inventory in the warehouse. Given the peculiarities of the layout - narrow alleys and a dense arrangement of cells - the robot was finalized. For example, so that the robot can see storage cells and pallets without "blind spots," the Yandex Robotics team installed 12 cameras. The team also improved the text recognition system (OCR) and trained the robot to read more than 20 code formats, including non-standard ciphers from different companies.
Thanks to this, on tests, the robot passed one warehouse alley in four minutes, fixing the contents of each bin and checking the data with the WMS (Warehouse Management System) system (Warehouse Management System). Previously, it took employees a whole day to do this. The robot also made it possible to identify errors in WMS data - duplicate records, incorrectly marked empty cells and inconsistencies between the actual and system placement of cargo.
After launching the robot into constant mode, CTA Cargo achieved tangible results:
- data accuracy in WMS rose from 89% to 96%;
- the volume of filled and verified data in WMS increased from 50% to 90%;
- employees moved away from routine inspections and engaged in more important tasks that cannot be automated.
In the near future, STA Cargo will introduce uniform QR labels for all cargo types - this will simplify accounting and speed up the warehouse.

We no longer waste time on manual checks and can take inventory without stopping processes. This is especially noticeable when working with large loads - now we know exactly where they lie, and we can better use the warehouse. It reduces costs, speeds up work and makes our services more profitable for customers,}}
