2025: Supercomputer Launch

A supercomputer for teaching AI models appeared at the Yaroslavl State Technical University. The use of computing power gives the university the opportunity to productively work with data and increase the speed of their processing. The project was implemented by the STEP LOGIC system integrator team using 3Logic Group's Crusader servers. Step Logic announced this on May 22, 2025.

To create the supercomputer, the Crusader HPC Squire 4245R server was chosen - this is a model for high-performance computing (HPC). It is suitable for performing scientific calculations and simulations, analyzing big data and developing artificial intelligence models in industries that are priority for the university: chemistry, transport, construction, automotive.

The server is equipped with fourth-generation multi-core processors, which allows you to run multithreaded tasks. It has four graphics accelerators, 1 TB of RAM, a fast 40 TB disk subsystem based on NVMe, 4 high-speed network interfaces 10Gbps.

We used virtualization and containerization technology to organize a convenient infrastructure based on this server, on which you can solve a variety of cases. Server resources can be combined to solve one complex and demanding task, or divided to perform several calculations in parallel. It is worth mentioning that the server is built on the basis of modern energy-efficient technologies and does not require specialized energy-intensive premises for accommodation, - said Sergey Kapliy, Director of the Computing Systems Department of STEP LOGIC.

According to the Linpack test, the theoretical performance of the supercomputer in YAGTU is at least 100 TFLOPS. And when calculating with half accuracy (FP16), which is a typical application for AI problems, - at least 7000 TFLOPS. Thus, in terms of its computing capabilities, it can enter the TOP-50 of supercomputers of the Russian Federation.

The super server will increase the efficiency of the specialists of the YAGTU engineering development center, who are engaged in the creation of components for industry. Data mining systems can be used to solve problems based on AI technologies, computer vision, machine learning, as well as the creation of digital models of instruments, layouts and projects.

Over the past year, we have seen a surge in interest in AI technologies and are constantly supplying servers for these tasks. They include up to eight powerful GPU accelerators, a high-performance central processing unit, high RAM, and a high-speed disk subsystem. The Yaroslavl Technical University operates Crusader HPC series servers. Practice has shown that Crusader equipment supported the effective operation of a promising project, "said Andrey Golovskikh, Technical Head of Crusader Server Equipment at 3Logic Group.

The super server opens up the possibilities of modeling and training AI systems. For example, it allows you to simulate the work of products that are developed as part of import substitution projects, which reduces costs, since it does not require the production of prototypes. With the advent of the super server, we will be able to create entire software complexes based on artificial intelligence as quickly as possible, which will point out errors, defects or violations of technological process standards, "said YAGTU rector Elena Stepanova.
