Microsoft SCCM 2007 in Russian Railways

The Digital Design company completed system implementation of control of personal computers (a PC ACS), introduced into the automated control system for monitoring of information resources and systems (MIRIS), for JSC Russian Railways.

This solution – the biggest implementation of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 in the territory of Russia and Eastern Europe which covered all personal computers of JSC "Russian Railways" from Kaliningrad to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The centralized system of accounting and control of personal computers provides exhaustive data on inventory structure and real use of the software on the PC in all divisions of JSC "Russian Railways".

Romanov Dmitry, the director of the department of infrastructure solutions, Digital Design, reports: "This management system for personal computers – the biggest implementation of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 in the territory of Russia and Eastern Europe which covered all personal computers of JSC "Russian Railways" from Kaliningrad to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. System implementation of control of personal computers became the first step to standardization of jobs in the company".

The solution is implemented on the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 platform. The centralized system of accounting and control of personal computers provides exhaustive data on inventory structure and real use of the software on the PC in all divisions of JSC "Russian Railways". The ACS of the PC allows to reduce time of updating of a client part of software, to increase efficiency of use of the industry the automated jobs (AJ) and to carry out inventory of the hardware. A system increases the level of security of information systems thanks to detection of not approved to installation, potentially dangerous software and timely installation of updates of operating systems and the application software.

The project lasted three years. During this time specialists of Digital Design developed a system concept of management of monitoring of information resources and systems and in several stages implemented a management system for personal computers. Also experts of IT integrator created install packets of the application software and configured their automatic distribution through a PC ACS. As a result of development of a complex of analytical reports IT specialists of JSC "Russian Railways" had the additional opportunities simplifying decision making on management of lifecycle of software. Besides, terms of carrying out changes in IT infrastructure and input of the new services requiring software installation were reduced.
