The telecom operator Smoltelekom implements convergent network infrastructure

HP completed upgrade of network and data processing centers of Smoltelekom company. As a result on the basis of HP solutions of Networking for the first time in the Smolensk region the fiksirovanno-mobile convergent infrastructure integrating in itself Wi-fi networks and city Ethernet was created.

Solution

Specialists of Smoltelekom stopped the choice on the HP A12518 platform. Thanks to the fact that HP A12518 supports MPLS technology Smoltelekom had an opportunity of convenient adaptation to changes of business needs and fast adding of new services such as video on demand, lease of applications and IP television.

This city network built on the equipment of HP provides reliability of the corporate level and allows to provide the VPN services necessary for corporate customers. Flexible distribution of capacity (QoS), support of a set of different services and also classification and prioritizing of traffic implemented by means of MPLS give the chance to set politicians and rates for different services with different agreements on the service level (SLA) — at the expense of it turnover and profit raise.

The network supports the VPN organization of levels 2 and 3 of the OSI model with the guaranteed agreements on the service level. Therefore now Smoltelekom offers the customers of service of lease of VPN and communication channels. Existence in network of the controller of wireless access allows to build the convergent data network combining the fixed fiber optic infrastructure of SPD and a wireless network of Wi-fi with roaming support.
