2025: Opening access to quantum computing platform

Rosatom opens the Irkutsk State University of Railways access to the cloud platform of quantum computing. Rosatom announced this on November 19, 2025.

The corresponding agreement was signed by the general director of Rosatom Quantum Technologies Natalya Kulagina and acting Rector of IrGUPS Yuri Trofimov.

This will allow one of the country's transport universities to integrate quantum technologies into educational programs and research activities. University students and scientists will have the opportunity to work with quantum emulators and develop algorithms to solve complex computational problems.

The integration of quantum technologies into the educational process and scientific activities will be developed by the IrGUPS as one of the main centers for the training of highly qualified personnel with quantum competencies for the Russian industry economy.

In the interests of the development of the Russian quantum industry, the Roadmap "Quantum Computing" until 2030 provides for the further deployment of a cloud platform for solving applied problems of using quantum computing. The number of users using quantum computing through the domestic calculation service should be at least 10 thousand people by 2030 (cumulative total).

On the horizon of 10 years, quantum computers of significant power will appear in Russia and the world, sufficient to obtain practical benefits from the introduction of quantum innovations, and a large circle of enterprises introducing quantum computing will be formed. To do this, today it is necessary to launch the training of personnel with quantum competencies. The cloud quantum computing platform is a good tool for training such personnel, as well as an opportunity to implement projects at the junction of quantum technologies and the transport industry, "commented Natalya Kulagina, General Director of Rosatom Quantum Technologies.

For university scientists, access to the cloud platform of quantum computing is a driver for the development of the field of digital engineering. In particular, we are talking about the development and introduction in the transport industry of Russia of digital counterparts of ground transport infrastructure at a fundamentally new technological level, creating digital prototypes on a new technological and software infrastructure, carrying out technologically capacious mathematical calculations and processing big data in real time. The first stage in the development of quantum computing by university scientists will be the training and protection of their scientific projects. The second is the transition of the entire mathematical apparatus of science-intensive projects to quantum computing and teaching new technologies to university students. I will keep on personal control the progress of the implementation of these initiatives, - said the acting Rector of IrGUPS Yuri Trofimov.

Cooperation between Rosatom and IrGUPS in the field of quantum technologies is developing on a system basis. In March 2025, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of professional training programs for specialists in demand for the introduction of quantum technologies in the Russian industry and social sphere.
