2025: Sentence - 11 years in a maximum security colony for bribes during the construction of nuclear facilities for 7 billion rubles

In mid-December 2025, the verdict of the Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow against the former general director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise National Radioactive Waste Management Operator (FSUE NO RAO, part of the state corporation Rosatom) Igor Igin entered into force. He received 11 years in prison for bribes during the construction of nuclear facilities.

According to the investigation, Igin, as head of NO RAO, was illegally enriched, acting in the interests of individuals and legal entities. The case file, in particular, says that he received a bribe in the amount of 132.5 million rubles from the founders of Spetsproekt LLC (St. Petersburg) in exchange for assistance in concluding and executing state contracts for the implementation of construction and installation works. We are talking about the construction of nuclear industry facilities in the Chelyabinsk and Tomsk regions, as well as in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The total value of the contracts exceeded 7 billion rubles.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, referring to the data of the investigation, the offerings were due to Igin for the conclusion by his enterprise of four state contracts with Spetsproekt in 2018, 2020 and 2021. In addition, the leaders of this company were counting on the conclusion of favorable agreements in the future. The money, according to law enforcement officers, was transferred to Igin both at his home and in one of the branches of Sberbank.

The criminal case was initiated under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - taking a bribe on an especially large scale. In addition, Igin was charged with illegal possession of weapons (part 1 of article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He will serve a prison term in a maximum security colony. The defendant was also fined 265 million rubles - in the form of a double amount of bribe. He is prohibited from holding senior and administrative positions for a period of five years.[1]
