The Novatek subsidiary company transferred the physical IT environment to virtual

The Softline company (file) completed the project on virtualization of IT infrastructure based on the product VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 in Novatek Tarkosaleneftegaz company, affiliated enterprise of the Novatek company developing gas fields of Yamal.

Project objectives were formulated by the customer as providing uniform access point for control of servers of the company, increase in high-speed performance of applications at the expense of a clustering of servers, reducing costs for updating of the equipment, minimization of time of testing and input of new services in operation, reduction of a downtime and recovery in case of hardware failures and at failures in the software, the maximum unification of the equipment and cost reduction on the electric power.

Within the project creation of a server cluster from four edges of IBM HS21 and also the fifth edge selected for the server of backup of VMware Consolidated Backup was supposed. For file allocation of virtual machines the storage system of IBM System Storage DS4200 Express with a capacity of 3 of Tb was used. During the project migration of servers from a physical medium in virtual and setup of service of backup was planned.

The project was executed in 15 days. In virtual environment such services as the Active Directory, File Server, the MS SQL Server, ISA Server, Application Server and some other were migrated. Templates of virtual servers, formation of new virtual machines from which takes read minutes, were created. VMware VirtualCenter allows to get the centralized access to all virtual machines and physical servers, to perform works and to control access and loading of resources.

Thanks to a large supply on power need to purchase additional servers in the next years disappeared. According to the made estimates, there will quite be enough resources of physical servers to deploy on them up to 40 virtual machines, and a clustering in total with a backup system of data minimize risks of losses and provide the best indicators on recovery time in case of accident.

As reported, 70% of works were performed in working time, after migration of the server at once began to work in the product environment.
