The unique project of virtualization of a SAP landscape of ERP at the Ostankino plant

The unique project of virtualization of a SAP landscape of ERP was implemented by specialists of CREDO CONSULTING company in 2010 by request of JSC OMPK. The following objects were set for start of the project in JSC OMPK: have an opportunity of fast deployment of systems and load distribution, to reach deniability from a binding to the equipment and consolidation of guest operating systems on servers.

The uniqueness of the project consists in a combination of the SAP ERP system, means of virtualization of Linux/SUSE XEN and the system of maintaining databases through DBMS DB2. In Russia the similar complex projects brought to a productive phase were not unknown yet.

The project consisted of two parts. The first part - preparation of DPC of JSC OPMK, was executed by forces of IT department of the company and external integrator. For works on the second part - creation of architecture and a SAP landscape under needs of divisions of the company – the team of specialists of CREDO CONSULTING was invited.

According to Alexander Reut from the very beginning with CREDO CONSULTING partnership was established really: specialists of the company took into account to requirement and wishes of IT department of JSC OMPK, satisfied all conditions of the project, showed high technical competence, professionalism and understanding of specifics of the industry.

As a result of coordination of actions of specialists of IT department of JSC OMPK and CREDO CONSULTING the following decisions were made:

• Perform deployment of a SAP landscape (SAP NetWeaver PI, SAP NetWeaver BI, SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4, SAP BO) using DB2 DBMS and means of virtualization of Linux/SUSE XEN.
• Implement printing management system using network printers and the print server with balancing of loading, high fault tolerance and remote task allocation of printing on paper sources.
• Reach high fault tolerance of a system in general due to use of means of virtualization and a backup system of Networker.
• Set centralized operation by a landscape based on Solution Manager.

Implementation of these solutions allowed to optimize expenses on purchase and hardware maintenance of the Data Processing Center (DPC), to reach effective management of virtual machines, to provide the planned performance, fault tolerance and scalability, to unroll a SAP landscape on virtual machines.
