PacketSentry Virtual Probe is the virtual sensor which is designed to expand the complete solution of security PacketMotion on virtual and cloud environments. The virtual PacketSentry sensor traces and allows to secure access to sensitive information in clusters of VMware, providing full-fledged functionality of the solution PacketSentry in the form of the virtual machine (VM), with a minimum load on resources. Controlled applications include databases, file storages, web applications, management of documents and many other things.
The Gartner group considers lack of transparency and control facilities at data transmission between VM-to-VM virtual machines of one of the most serious security concerns for the organizations. It can lead to unauthorized communications between virtual machines, to difficulties with control of access rights in a virtual host and inability to detect illegal access to key data assets. And also to inability of carrying out internal audits and fulfillment of requirements of regulators, including PCI, HIPAA and SOX.
The solution PacketSentry Virtual Probe radically changes the level of control of security in virtual environment. It is the complex virtual device (virtual appliance) which:
- Implements several elements of control in one application.
- It is started as the guest virtual machine consuming only 3-5 percent of resources of the processor a host computer.
- Reacts to transactions without binding to the IP addresses.
- It is licensed by the number of controlled virtual machines, regardless of architecture of implementation of VMware.
- Automates deployment of information security policies on the basis of credentials of users in virtual data center.
The virtual PacketSentry sensor was created as simple in installation and effective addition to virtual environment. As the virtual sensor consumes few resources of the processor and RAM of the server, it can be unrolled everywhere on normal and a blade servers in virtual data processing centers for their security blanket. The expanded mechanism of decoding of protocols and applications of PacketSentry provides the unprecedented tool for check and control of actions of users in applications in virtual environments.
The virtual PacketSentry Virtual Probe sensor supports separation of responsibility, providing to departments of security and the IT groups which bear responsibility for observance of requirements of regulators and the politician of protection of intellectual property, the solution for audit and control in virtual data processing centers that usually it is necessary to do to server groups. Now the department of security can control administrative activity and control security policy in virtual environment without attraction of additional resources.
The virtual PacketSentry sensor supports VMware VSphere of version 4.0 above, ESX of version 3.5 above, and is available through the authorized partners of PacketMotion. Support of other virtual environments is in the future planned.
