Software AG buys In-memory of vendor Terracotta

Software AG signed the agreement to purchase of Terracotta company that will allow vendor to expand the "cloud" offers and to improve performance of the business applications based on Terracotta in-memory technology for Java. It is said in the official statement of the company.
Software AG buys all rights to Terracotta, transaction amount is measured by two-digit digit in millions of euros. Terracotta is private company with offices in San Francisco and New Delhi in which 55 people in total work. It is reported that the transaction will be closed in June, 2011.
Terracotta is a developer of In-memory technologies. These are such technologies which allow to store important data of applications in RAM, but not to read out them from the hard drive that increases performance of IT systems. The Terracotta technology allows to store up to 1 Tb of data in RAM.
Integration of technology with the systems of Software AG will become the first priority within the transaction webMethods and BPM Aris, the technical director of Software AG Dzhost Tungsten (Wolfram Jost) said during the press conference at which the transaction was submitted. According to plans of the company, In-memory it will be available to clients already in the fourth quarter 2011 and the software additional configuration is not required.
One of the basic reasons which brought to this transaction consists that business applications of Software AG become more and more bulky. The new technology to improve scalability of software and will warm up demand for it, declared Dzhost.
Terracotta in-memory processing will also play a key role in creation of cloud versions of products of Software AG. In February the company stated that cloud releases of webMethods and Aris will appear in the third quarter. Applications will be available both within public, and within private "cloud".
The cloud Terracotta tools allow applications to be started by standard industrial Java in a cloud environment. So integration of this technology and a cloud platform of Software AG will bear fruit already in the following years.
Software AG will also continue to support open versions of the products Terracotta, including Ehcache which is used for performance improvement of applications on Java. Open-source projects of Terracotta will be continued in full, the founder and technical director of the company Ari Zilka wrote in the blog.
According to him, for Java there comes favorable time. Commercial products of Terracotta after the transaction will also be on sale and separately. Software AG is not the only company advancing in-memory computing. Last week SAP released a cloud platform for the in-memory of SAP HANA technology (High-Performance Analytic Appliance).
