Virtualization in calculations — process of representation of set of computing resources, or their logical consolidation which gives any advantages over an original configuration. It is a new virtual view on resources, not limited to implementation, a geographical location or a physical configuration of components. Usually virtualized resources include computing powers and the data warehouse. A good example of virtualization are symmetric multiprocessor computer architecture which use more than one processor. Operating systems are usually configured so that several processors were represented as the uniform processor module. That is why software applications can be written for one logical (virtual) computing module that it is much simpler, than to work with a large number of different processor configurations.
Technologies of virtualization became an integral part of modern IT infrastructure as it allows to accelerate significantly implementation of new IT systems and services and also to optimize costs for support of existing. Interest in virtualization significantly increased for the last one-two years: the companies begin to standardize providing new servers, using technologies of virtualization of storage systems and computing resources. At the same time the level of penetration of virtualization into IT infrastructure of customers is still not really high. According to experts by the beginning of 2011 of only 12 — 13% of physical servers in Russia were used as virtualization servers. But experts note that now virtualization gradually turns really into mass technology. Accomplishment of a number of projects on implementation of the applied systems such as mail, ERP, portals and others in which virtualization is already used as the standard thanks to which it is possible to reduce equipment expenses and licenses is an example. At the same time 85 - 90% of projects are the share of virtualization of servers, and 10 up to 15% - of virtualization of jobs. The companies which constructed or upgraded the infrastructure using technologies of virtualization, managed to estimate advantages of this technology. Other market participants are on a threshold of future fulfillments. Unfortunately, the high cost of projects of virtualization and insufficient awareness of the client on advantages of similar technologies are the pacing restraining factors of market development.
The number of virtual servers in the world already considerably exceeds number of physical. According to some researches, it is the share of one physical server more than seven virtual today. The popularity of virtual servers has an economic case: according to polls of IDC, means of virtualization allow to reduce the park of physical servers on average by 20%, at the same time equipment costs, a power supply, cooling, the premises decrease approximately by 25%. About 70% of the performed projects of virtualization of servers in the world are estimated as successful, and many companies have relevant plans for further development of the IT infrastructure in this direction. Thus, the dependence of business on virtualization will grow further.
The volume of the potential market of the solutions VDI and other technologies for the organization of a corporate virtual working space (Enterprise virtual workspace) in Russia, by estimates of analysts of IBS, will be up to 1.5 million virtual work places by 2015 or 80-120 million dollars in terms of money. In general the volume of the Russian market of cloud computing, means of virtualization and other technologies "cloud-ready" IBS estimated in 2012 at 500 million dollars with the predicted annual average growth of the market in the next years 80-90%. The most part of costs of customers are the share of construction of private clouds and the solution for deployment of cloud infrastructure (IaaS), including technology of virtualization of jobs.
