2024: Growth of the Russian logistics outsourcing services market by 20.6% to ₽547,63 billion
The Russian 3PL logistics market in 2024 grew by 20.6% in nominal terms and reached a record value of ₽547,63 billion. Taking into account inflation, the real increase was 6.1%, follows from a study by GuideMarket, published in June 2025.
The industry is showing steady growth despite external challenges, analysts said. After slowing down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the increase was 6.4%, the market quickly recovered. In 2021, it returned to the pre-crisis trajectory, and in 2022 a sharp increase of 23.6% was recorded.
The main growth drivers are the development of domestic production, the growth of e-commerce, the development of marketplaces, import substitution and state support for logistics infrastructure. Experts record a sharp increase in online trading in 2024 - ₽11 trillion in monetary terms, with an increase of 39% by 2023.
The number of orders in electronic commerce increased by 48% and reached 7.7 billion. Marketplaces account for up to 65% of all online purchases. This leads to increased demand for logistics services, especially from Internet sites.
The leader in the volume of 3PL services provided remains the Central Federal District with a share of 45.2% in 2024, which is 1.8 percentage points more than in 2023. This is due to the high concentration of logistics and warehouse centers, developed transport infrastructure and business activity density.
In second place is the Northwestern Federal District, where the logistics capacities of large operators are concentrated. Volga Federal District occupies 10.3%, Siberian - 9%. The Southern, Far Eastern and Ural districts have smaller shares, but show positive dynamics.[1]
2023: The Russian market for logistics outsourcing services grew to a new record of 453.97 billion rubles over the year
The Russian market for logistics outsourcing services in 2023 reached a new record, increasing to 453.97 billion rubles. This was announced by RBC in mid-June 2024. This growth confirms the sustainable development of the sector, despite the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical situation.
The 3PL logistics market (third-party logistics services involving transportation, warehousing and supply chain management) has seen steady growth in recent years. In 2020, the growth rate slowed down to 6.4% due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the real increase, taking into account price changes, was only 1.1%. However, starting in 2021, the market began to recover, which led to an increase in growth rates.
In 2022, the market continued to grow, increasing by 23.6%, despite geopolitical difficulties and economic crises. However, taking into account inflation, the market volume decreased by 3.7% compared to 2021. Nevertheless, in 2023, the volume of the 3PL logistics market recovered and continued its growth, reaching a record 453.97 billion rubles. The growth rate of the market volume amounted to 21.1%, and taking into account price changes - 4% compared to the previous year.
The growth of the 3PL logistics market is due to the increased demand for outsourcing logistics services. Companies strive to optimize their logistics processes, reducing costs and increasing efficiency by attracting specialized operators.
3PL Logistics includes a wide range of services such as transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and order processing. The benefits of logistics outsourcing are that companies can focus on their core operations by outsourcing logistics operations to professional operators.[2]
