The tourist flow of Russians to Antalya for the year increased by 14.1%, to 3.46 million people

On January 1 to December 31, 2023, 3,461,762 Russian tourists visited Antalya, which is 14.1% more than in 2022. Such statistics in the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) led in early January 2024.

Russia is the leader in terms of tourist flow in Antalya. At the same time, the number of Russian tourists in this Turkish province did not return to the pre-pandemic (we are talking about the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic) level: in 2019 , 5,582,763 trips from the Russian Federation were recorded in Antalya, in comparison with this indicator in 2023, the tourist flow decreased by 38%.

Antalya became the second most popular among tourists from Germany (3.4 million Germans visited the Turkish resort in 2023). In third place was Britain (1.32 million people).

In fourth place  is Greater   (1,068,150 people), it also has the highest growth dynamics (+ 39.6% by 2022 and + 92.8% compared to 2019). Also in the top 10 countries in terms of tourist flow to Antalya at the end of 2023 included the Netherlands , Kazakhstan, Romania, Czech Republic, Israel and Ukraine.

According to the Department of Culture and Tourism of the province of Antalya, 15,689,258 tourists from abroad rested at its resorts in 2023. This is 2.7% more than in the record for Antalya 2019 (15,280,763).

Earlier it was reported that in the fall of 2023 ,  Istanbul became the most popular Turkish city among Russian tourists. It accounted for 10.7% of total bookings. Antalya scored just 2.3% on this list.

The Russian tourist flow to Antalya in December 2023 amounted to 60,058 trips, German overtook it (77,688 ). The tourist flow from the UK to Antalya in December amounted to 29,952 trips. The December values ​ ​ of the Russian tourist flow turned out to be 28.4% less than in December 2022 (83,845 ), largely due to the high indicators of the end of 2022.^[1]

A record 800 thousand tourists in the first three months. A quarter are Russians

Turkish Antalya received about 800 thousand tourists in the first three months of 2023. The current flow of vacationers is a new record for Antalya, previously this was not even before the pandemic. At the same time, more than a quarter of the arriving tourists are Russians.

2022: Russians become the leader of the tourist flow in Antalya

Most often, Antalya in 2022 was visited by tourists from Russia - their flow exceeded 3 million people. This was announced in January 2023 by the DHA agency with reference to the chairman of the working group on tourism of the Antalya city council Recep Yavuz.

According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), about 3.03 million Russian tourists visited Antalya in 2022. In second place were tourists from Germany (2.8 million people), in third - from the UK (1.1 million people), in fourth - from Poland (765 thousand people).

According to the DHA agency, 682 thousand ethnic Turks living in other countries also arrived in Antalya. In total, 13.4 million foreign travelers arrived in the Turkish province in 2022.

According to Yavuz, the foreign tourist flow to Antalya in 2022 was better than the previous two years, but still did not reach the level of 2019. He noted that this is mainly due to the loss of Russian tourists due to the situation in Ukraine. In 2019, the resort received more than 5.5 million Russians.

The restoration of tourist flow began only in May [2022 - approx. TAdviser], and as a result, we missed 2.5 million tourists from the Russian Federation, - added Yavuz.

In the third and fourth quarters of 2022, tourist flow indicators from the Russian Federation returned to pre-pandemic (we are talking about the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, which began in 2020) volumes, and in December 2022 Russia was the first in Antalya with 80 thousand tourists per month.

If it were not for the drop in Russian tourist flow in the first half of 2022 due to difficulties with air traffic, then as many Russians would have arrived in Antalya as in 2019, and the main resort in Turkey would have closed 2022 with 16 million tourists, Recep Yavuz emphasized.^[2]
