Mobile applications of SAP

The vice president for the mobile strategyof SAPBill Clark in November, 2014 told TAdviser as the mobile direction of business of his company to which in the last several years she pays the increasing attention develops.

In SAP mobile applications in two main directions are developed. The first of them – the application on the Fiori platform which was submitted in May, 2013. Bill Clark gave TAdviser data that as of fall of 2014 in total there are more than 500 applications of Fiori, including created by partners.

The first wave of applications of Fiori provided right after the announcement of the platform included 25 applications covering the most standard business processes for most business companies. The vice president of SAP for mobile strategy notes that applications of this wave remain the most demanded from all applications by Fiori.

The second direction of mobile applications of SAP includes customized industry applications, a considerable part from which was also created by partners. In total in this direction as of fall of 2014 there are more than 300 applications. Among them – the Syclo companies created based on technologies which SAP purchased in 2012.

Basic applications here are SAP Work Manager (for management of work of remote workers on objects), SAP Service Manager for SAP Rounds. Among the most demanded applications in the second direction Bill Clark calls SAP Work Manager (totals about 900 clients worldwide) and SAP Mobiliser (the solution for mobile banking allowing to perform financial transactions using mobile devices).

Speaking about new applications with which SAP expects to fill up the portfolio of mobile solutions in the near future, Bill Clark calls applications using technology of augmented reality and the concept of Internet of Things. In particular, SAP works on integration of SAP Work Manager with technologies of augmented reality and Google Glass. The 3D technology - visualization before Right Hemisphere acquired company which allows to conduct rendering of objects in 3D is for this purpose used.

Technical specialists on objects can use such application, for example: examining the equipment via Google Glass, they will be able to see on the tablet faults in it and the ordered solution.

According to Bill Clark, in the long term SAP expects to release the applications based on these technologies optimized for application in the different industries. One of partners who show the greatest interest in creating applications of SAP using technology of augmented reality Bill Clark calls Vuzix company. A number of large integrators with which SAP cooperates also is interested in creating applications with augmented reality, he adds.

Emergence of the first applications covering conventional processes in the narrow industries in SAP expects within about 18-24 months. In closer perspective of the company will experiment with these technologies, the vice president of SAP for mobile strategy believes.

Rather mobile strategy of SAP Bill Clark explained that business applications which are developed by his company cover two basic needs of customers: provide business process automation and consumption of information. Around the last the mobile strategy of SAP is also based.

"Consumption of information changes: initially paper was for this purpose used, then – computers, notebooks, and now – consumption of data is fragmented on smartphones and tablets, including – within the concept of so-called Internet of Things. Therefore in terms of mobile strategy now a crucial element for us is cloud computing", - Bill Clark notes.

He also added that the essence of mobile strategy of SAP is in that, using the cloud platform of HANA allowing a message predictive analytics in real time to organize a live ecosystem from business applications, mobile devices and users.

It brings the project implemented in Montreal where more than 350 retailers were united in a single network into example of implementation of the similar scheme and using the SAP HANA platform and the SAP Precision Retailing platform connected it with the system of the subway of the city. The solution allowing vendors of a message targeted marketing among passengers of the subway at the same time was as a result received allowing the last to see from mobile devices the first in arrangement to them outlet where it is possible to take advantage of the offer.
