2025: Costs for the construction of the road are estimated at 44 billion rubles

The head of the project office of ProGorod (ВЭБ.РФ structure) Ksenia Titova in mid-January 2025 announced plans to build a Big Caucasian Road with a length of 1.4 thousand km for ₽44 billion, which will connect all regions of the North Caucasus Federal District (North Caucasus Federal District).

According to RBC, of the total length of the route, 794 km already meet regulatory requirements. The reconstruction of the remaining 491 km will require ₽30 billion, and the construction of new 117 km of the road is estimated at ₽14 billion. Financing of the new site has already been laid down in the state programs of the regions with the prospect of implementation until 2027.

The Big Caucasian Road will be built in the regions of the North Caucasus for ₽44 billion

The project is part of the Big Caucasus tourism scheme, the development of which began in 2023 by the developer ProGorod LLC. The master plan is focused on the targets of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry" and defines a strategy for the development of tourism infrastructure in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District until 2030.

The route of the Great Caucasian Road is laid along the Great Caucasian Trail and crosses the territory of seven regions of the North Caucasus Federal District from the Chyorny to the Caspian Sea. The track will provide tourists with access to natural locations that were previously difficult to visit.

The total cost of implementing the project of the tourist scheme "Greater Caucasus" is estimated at ₽1,5 trillion. The project provides for the possibility of combining automobile and hiking routes to create an additional tourist offer.
