2022: Sales of black caviar in Russia decreased by 2.3% to 82.6 tons
Sales of black caviar in Russia in 2022 amounted to 82.6 tons, which is 2.3% less than a year earlier. The fall in the market was recorded by BusinesStat analysts. They released their study in May 2023.
According to experts, the negative impact on the sale of black caviar in the Russian Federation was the fall in the inbound tourist flow to the country (-30% in 2022). Black caviar is a Russian brand, and a significant part of its sales are from foreign tourists. The product is widely represented in restaurants and specialized stores in large Russian cities visited by tourists, and is also included in the range of duty-free stores at airports, the researchers explain.
Exports of black caviar from Russia are relatively small. In 2020-2021. the volume of black caviar exports from Russia increased, and in 2019 and 2022. - decreased. The maximum increase occurred in 2020, it amounted to 83.1% compared to the level of the previous year. At the end of 2022, the export of black caviar from the country reached 1.9 tons. The main reason for the reduction in exports in 2022 was a decrease in supplies to Singapore, South Korea, the UAE and Belarus.
In 2022, the EU and Britain introduced a ban on the import of black caviar from Russia. At the same time, EU countries also imposed sanctions on the supply of black caviar to Russia. These measures practically did not affect the volume of foreign trade in Russia with black caviar, since the share in it of these countries was previously minimal, the study said.
In money, the export of black caviar from Russia in 2020-2021. grew following the natural volume of supplies. In 2019 and 2022, exporters' revenue declined. In 2021, the increase in the indicator was the maximum over the period - 2 times. In 2022, the export turnover amounted to $487.5 thousand, calculated in BusinesStat.[1]
