The Spanish car market is showing steady growth: in 2025, 1,148,650 new cars were sold, which is 12.9% more than a year earlier.
2025 was a success for electric vehicles, with sales soaring 94.6% from 2024. A total of 225,617 such machines were sold, and their market share reached almost 20% (19.6%).
The leadership in the top of automakers for the fourth year Toyota in a row holds (96,290 sold cars). They are followed by Renault (83,308) and (Volkswagen 76,545).

The Spanish car market recorded a 7.4% drop in car sales in the first nine months of the year, or rather 47,673 fewer cars than in 2021. Car rentals fared even worse, with car rental companies recording a 42.2 per cent drop in rentals between January and September.
Experts consider too wide technological diversity as one of the reasons for the fall in car sales in Spain, in addition to rising inflation. That is, there is a lot of uncertainty about which solution is more convenient, which ultimately raises a lot of doubts among potential buyers.
2013: 3.3% increase in sales of new cars
During 2013, the General Directorate of Traffic Police of Spain registered 722,703 new cars. According to analysts, "the volume of sales of new passenger vehicles for the first time in the last three years has discovered an upward trend." True, despite the positive manifestation (the increase in sales compared to 2012, according to the Anfac manufacturers association, amounted to 3.3%), "the automotive market is still at an abnormally low level of activity." The normal volume for the Spanish automotive sector is the registration of 1.2-1.3 million new cars per year.
The main motive for the acquisition of the new vehicle during the year remained the current government PIVE plan, according to which the estimated value of the old car being handed over was read out as part of the payment for the new one. According to statistics from the Ganvam sellers association, the average discount on the purchase of a "fresh" car was about 4,000 euros.
The most popular in 2013 were small cars - the number of their acquisitions increased by 9.5%, and in total this type of vehicle amounted to 29.5% of total sales. The sector of all-wheel drive SUVs with a large engine volume suffered the greatest decline - their sales fell by 32.9%.
In all autonomies of Spain in 2013, an increase in car purchases was recorded. The exception was two regions - the autonomous community of Madrid (a decrease of 2.6%) and the Balearic Islands (minus 13.4%)[1].
