2024: 5.8% reduction in cast iron production to 54.6 million tonnes

A reduction in pig iron production in 2024 was recorded among a number of Russian manufacturers, in particular. So, at Mechel, production decreased by 6%, to 3 million tons. At the end of 2024, Russia ranked fourth in iron production after China, India and Japan. The share of the Russian Federation in the market was 3.5%.
2015
The volume of the cast iron casting market in Russia in 2015 amounted to 1,340,3 thousand tons in physical terms, which is 233% more than in 2014. Such a sharp jump is due to a significant increase in foundry iron production in 2015. In value terms, the cast iron casting market volume in 2015 amounted to 26.1 billion rubles, which is 167% more than in 2014. It should be noted that import and export supplies of pig iron products account for a small share of the cast iron casting market.
The import of products from cast iron, steel and other ferrous metals in 2015 amounted to 49,142,8 tons in physical terms, which is 35% less than in 2014. Imports in physical terms are dominated by non-cast iron products.
In value terms, the volume of imports in 2015 amounted to $ 112,412,7 thousand, which is 39% less than in 2014. Steel products predominate in value terms in imports.
The leading producer of pig iron products imported to Russia in 2015 was LIEBHERR - 20%, forged iron products - OUTOTEC FINLAND OY (20%), non-cast iron products - DNEPROTYAZHMASH (50%).
The average level of producer prices for cast iron in Russia in 2015 was set at 18,121 rubles/ton, which is 15.7% more than in 2014. For the period from 2010 to 2015, the highest level of producer prices for cast iron was observed in 2011 - 20,642 rubles/ton.
