Expenses on cloud services in health care reached $4.9 billion

According to Market Research Outlet research company, expenses on cloud computing in health care at the end of 2016 reached $4.9 billion. The most part of such investments fell on North America — about $3.4 billion.

Domination of this region turned out to be consequence of introduction of mandatory requirements to data storage about patients in an electronic format, growth of IT investment into the medical sector and improvements of infrastructure of health care in North America in general.

As for segments with the greatest revenue, first place in 2016 was won by IaaS services. If to speak about specific product categories, then the systems of archiving and transfer of images (PACS) which borrowed 3/7 in a total amount of the market are in the lead here. According to forecasts of analysts, expenses on PACS will increase by 29.8% annually during the period from 2017 to 2024. These products are crucial for adoption of important medical solutions and performing treatment, the study says.

It is expected that by 2024 the medical companies and organizations will spend for the solutions IaaS worldwide, PaaS and SaaS in total about $25.7 billion, and the market will grow for 23.4% a year.

Cloud services are in demand in the medical market as they offer infrastructure which allows hospitals, clinics, insurance companies and research organizations to improve the computing resources at small expenses. Development of cloud computing is caused by the fact that organizations pay attention to costs and quality improvement of medical services more and stronger.[1]

In the middle of January, 2018 the Frost & Sullivan analytical company published results of a research in the field of use of cloud computing in medical visualization and came to a conclusion that in 2016 the volume of this market was $285.4 million.

It is predicted that by 2021 world flows on cloud computing in the systems of visualization will be measured by $830.5 million, and annual growth rates will average 23.8%.

Current situation will give development not to really large developer companies which were engaged in cloud computing at an early stage, and to the small companies working only in this sphere — Nadim Daher, the chief researcher of department of medical visualization and image processing of Frost & Sullivan says. — Cloud computing enters more and more daily activity of highly paid and valuable specialists whereas earlier they were used only as the supporting IT systems and actually did not concern doctors or patients.

According to forecasts, in the next years development of cloud computing using the advanced analysis systems of images, machine learning, standards of compatibility and a blockchain services in health care will open new opportunities for all interested persons in the field of medical visualization.
