2024: Telecom market volume growth by 9.6% to SM 4.36 bln
At the end of 2024, the costs of the telecommunications market in Tajikistan reached 4.36 billion somoni ($0.44 billion at the exchange rate as of July 1, 2025). This is 9.6% more compared to the previous year, when the volume of the industry was estimated at 3.98 billion somoni. The main sources of revenue for telecom operators in Tajikistan are mobile communications and Internet access services. However, high tariffs and insufficient quality of services have a negative impact on the development of the industry. The country's largest telecom providers, such as Tcell and, MegaFon Tajikistan focus on improving connectivity and accessibility Internet to the public. In particular, the network infrastructure is being modernized, including the expansion of coverage. 4G
In addition, local operators are starting commercial implementation. In 5G 2025-2028, MegaFon Tajikistan plans to install approximately 200 5G base stations in large cities of the country and lay about 1000 km of fiber-optic lines. At the same time, Tcell announced the commercial launch of 5G technology. However, coverage with 5G networks as of mid-2025 is of a point nature: for example, Zet-Mobile has several zones in, Dushanbe as well as in the cities of Bokhtar and Khujand.
The largest player in the telecom market of Tajikistan is Indigo Tajikistan (Tcell) with 2.66 million subscribers. In second place is Babylon-Mobile (Babylon-T LLC) with 1.88 million users, and closes the top three is TT Mobile (MegaFon Tajikistan), whose subscriber base is 1.8 million people. Next comes "Tuck" (Zet-Mobile) with 1 million subscribers. On the fifth and sixth lines are Tochiktelecom (Tajiktelecom) and O Mobile, which serve 275 thousand and 240.57 thousand customers, respectively.
The study notes that the Government of Tajikistan is implementing projects and partnerships that stimulate an increase in network bandwidth and Internet access speed. In the spring of 2025, the first National Internet Traffic Exchange Center (IXP) called TJ-IX, located on the basis of JSC Tochiktelecom, began work in the country. In addition, Azerkosmos and Zet-Mobile signed a cooperation agreement: under the terms of the agreement, the mobile operator will use the Azerspace-2 satellite to provide communication services in remote regions of the country.

In general, in Tajikistan, 2025-2030 has been declared the "Years of Development of the Digital Economy and Innovation." The initiative is aimed at accelerating the digitalization of the country, stimulating innovation and developing high-tech sectors of the economy. We are talking, in particular, about investments in the expansion of telecom infrastructure, including advanced 5G services. In October 2024, Russia and Tajikistan began joint projects in the field of digitalization in the amount of over 2.5 billion rubles. In addition, work is underway to exchange experience between the IT hubs of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Attention is also paid to artificial intelligence technologies. An AI Factory center has been formed in the country, which will focus on educational programs, scientific research, startup support and the development of business solutions in the field of AI.[1]
