Cotton (Russian market)

Main article: Agriculture in Russia

2020: Less than 35 tons of raw cotton collected

Russia cannot yet overcome cotton dependence on Asia: in 2020, the gross harvest of raw cotton did not reach 35 tons with a sown area of less than 60 hectares. In order to meet the current needs of Russia, at least 80% of the demand, it is necessary to produce at least 250 thousand tons of cotton fiber per year. And for this it is necessary to sow up to 280 thousand hectares.

Difficulties with deliveries from Central Asia are forcing us to think about domestic cotton: in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, the export of raw materials is increasingly declining with a simultaneous increase in the production and export of finished products. In addition, the production of its own fabrics is becoming more relevant due to the falling solvent demand of the population: imports are increasingly more expensive and inaccessible.
