DHCP
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is the protocol of a dynamic configuration of a node) is the network protocol which gives the chance to computers to receive the IP address and parameters which are required for TCP/IP net surfing automatically. Work of this protocol is carried out on the basis of the client-server model. For the work of an automatic configuration the computer client in the course of a configuration of the network device resorts to the so-called DHCP server which issues it necessary parameters.
Principle of work
The DHCP protocol permits a host to receive the IP address from a special address pool automatically. At the time of start of dhcpd reads out the dhcpd.conf file and saves the list of the available addresses for each subnet in memory. If in an address request prtsessa the client uses the DHCP protocol, the server displays to it the free address. For the purpose of preserving of information on the issued addresses, in case of reset of a system or restart of dhcpd, the list of the busy addresses remains in the dhcpd.leases file. New information is added to the end of the file to prevent growths, periodically dhcpd creates the new dhcpd.leases file which includes only relevant records, and old deletes.
