2023: The number of students in dance schools in Russia increased by 10.9% to 1.61 million people
In 2023, the number of students in dance schools in Russia reached 1.61 million people. This is 10.9% more compared to 2022, when their number was estimated at 1.45 million. The main growth factors are the popularization of a healthy lifestyle and the emergence of modern dance directions. This is stated in the review of BusinesStat, published in early September 2024.
The study says that dancing is one of the three most popular sports that children in Russia play. The maximum number of students of such studios falls on the age category of 7-10 years. At the same time, there is a trend towards an increase in the number of students among adults - primarily women under 35 years old. The review considers various types of dances - classical, folk, modern, ballroom, social, etc.
According to estimates, in 2019 the number of dances in schools in Russia was about 1.18 million people. In 2020, a decline of 3.3% followed - to 1.14 million. The reduction is due to restrictions imposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the increase in attention to health and fatigue from social isolation led to an increase in the number of dances in schools by 10.8% - up to 1.26 million people. In 2022, an increase of another 15.4% followed with a final result of 1.45 million.
In general, in 2019-2023, the number of students in dance schools in Russia rose by 37.2%. For many, such activities are an effective way to relax and relieve stress. The audience of dance schools is also increasing thanks to the opening of new studios. As the available directions expand, the number of teenagers studying dance is growing. Dancing is traditionally more popular among women, whose share is about 80%. One of the main criteria when choosing a school for classes is proximity to home.[1]
