2024:21% increase in dumplings sales

Sales of dumplings in Russia from October 2023 to September 2024 increased by 21% in physical terms and by 34% in monetary terms. This is evidenced by data from a study published by the Romir holding in early January 2025.

According to TASS, the growth is due to an increase in the number of buyers by 4 percentage points and an increase in the frequency of purchases. Currently, 81% of Russian families purchase dumplings at least once a year.

Sales of dumplings in Russia for the year increased by 21%

Experts of the Romir holding noted that the average check for dumplings reached ₽256, which significantly exceeds the average check for finished food, which is ₽178. At the same time, customers demonstrate a steady commitment to this traditional product.

According to the publication, specialized stores play a significant role in the development of the category, which account for 25% of all expenses of Russians for dumplings. These outlets are becoming more and more popular among consumers.

The study showed a stable increase in demand for dumplings in all regions of Russia, which indicates the preservation of traditional nutritional preferences among the country's population.

The holding's experts emphasize that dumplings remain one of the most popular products in the category of frozen semi-finished products, despite the higher cost compared to other types of ready-made food.

Romir analysts note that the growth in sales of dumplings is observed both in large federal retail chains and in small local stores, which indicates a general trend of increasing consumption of this product.

The study also revealed a trend of expanding the range of dumplings in retail outlets, reflecting the growing demand for different variants of this traditional dish.[1]

2023: Increase in sales of dumplings by 3.2% to 476 thousand tons

In 2023, retail sales of dumplings in Russia in 2023 reached 476 thousand tons, which is 3.2% more than a year earlier. In comparison with 2019 (then 417 thousand tons of products were sold), the market volume increased by 14%, BusinesStat analysts calculated. Their data was published in May 2024.

According to experts, one of the growth drivers of the Russian dumpling market is the expansion of the range of these products. To meet the different taste preferences of consumers, dumplings manufacturers bring to the market products of various types and tastes. There is also a growing range of dumplings with exotic gourmet ingredients, the study explains.

Another market growth catalyst is related to the use of natural ingredients. Followers of a healthy lifestyle are increasingly paying attention to the composition of food. Dumplings manufacturers strive to use natural and environmentally friendly ingredients and minimize the use of GMOs, synthetic dyes and preservatives. In addition, analysts are paying attention to the increase in demand for ready-to-eat dumplings.

With the accelerating rhythm of life, especially in large cities, saving time becomes a consumer value. More and more Russians prefer ready-to-eat products that are easy enough to heat in the microwave, the report says.

Finally, according to BusinesStat, sales of dumplings in the Russian Federation are growing thanks to the development of online channels for their sale. The growing popularity of food delivery services has simplified the purchase process and allowed to expand the audience of dumplings consumers, reaching the population in remote parts of the country, the researchers add.[2]
