2021: Announcement of the first global standard for smartphone protection

At the end of November 2021, the European Institute for Telecommunications Standards (ETSI) released what it calls the first global standard for smartphone protection or consumer mobile device protection profile. The technology was the first in a series of standards in this area that will be developed by the organization until May 2023.

According to ETSI, the specification, known as ETSI TS 103 732, identifies key risks to the security and confidentiality of user data and related protection. These include photos, videos, location services, passwords, fitness tracker information, and more. The representative of the organization noted that smartphones and tablets store a wide range of user data and applications, while attacks on security, including such as malicious applications and listening to the network, increased.

The ETSI specification contains a wide range of security features, including cryptographic support, user data protection, identification and authentication, security management, privacy protection, resistance to physical attacks, secure download, and trusted communication channels. ETSI is a non-profit organization that includes more than 700 member organizations from 62 countries on 5 continents around the world.[1]
