Among the factors contributing to this growth, it is worth noting the active promotion of electric vehicles by a number of international brands. In 2023, official sales of Kia electric vehicles began in Uzbekistan, in particular the EV6 model, presented in two trim levels. However, the Chinese brand BYD has achieved the greatest success, the Song Plus model of which has become one of the most popular in the country. In 2023, more than 6 thousand cars of this model were sold, which allowed it to take sixth place in the overall rating of sales of new cars.

BYD also plans to open an electric vehicle plant in Uzbekistan in 2024 with a capacity of 10 thousand cars per year. This event will be an important step in the development of the country's automotive industry and will further increase the share of electric vehicles in the market.

Other popular models in the Uzbek market include Volkswagen [Volkswagen ID.4 (electric crossover)|iD.4]], iD.6, as well as Zeekr 001, which is the leader in sales among electric vehicles in Russia. Such high sales results indicate a significant interest of Uzbek consumers in environmentally friendly transport and the readiness to switch to more sustainable[2]

2021: Uzbekistan introduced special numbers for electric vehicles

In August 2021, it was announced the introduction of special state registration plates for electric vehicles in Uzbekistan. Distinctive license plates for electric vehicles are used in different countries. For example, in South Korea, such numbers have a blue background.

Uzavtosanoat wants to transfer to the production of exclusively electric vehicles in the coming years. The company was instructed with the involvement of foreign experts and consulting companies to develop a draft of the corresponding concept.[3]
